Christmas Cantata 2011–2022
2011–2022 · Detroit, Michigan
For twelve years, from 2011 to 2022, Good News Detroit Church hosted the Gracias Christmas Cantata in Detroit. Through the music of the internationally acclaimed Gracias Choir and Orchestra, we shared the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of hope, joy, and love through Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice accomplished eternal redemption for us.
It began modestly, in a high school auditorium with just over 500 seats. Year by year the audience grew, and the cantata moved from the Masonic Temple to The Fillmore Detroit, and finally, in 2019 and 2022, to the historic Fox Theatre, the largest theatre in Michigan, where 3,000 to 4,000 guests filled the seats each night.
Through performances filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt emotion, God allowed us to share the gospel with nearly 30,000 people over the years. Many came for an evening of beautiful music and heard why Christ was born.
We are deeply grateful to every neighbor who came, every donor who helped make each free performance possible, and every volunteer who handed out invitations, welcomed guests, and prayed behind the scenes.
"Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." — Luke 2:10–11 (NKJV)
